Mariela Hernandez relieved freshman starting pitcher Haley Flint in 6th inning to earn the victory.
Fayetteville State (0-20, 0-2 CIAA) did their damage in the first inning, pushing two across on three hits. Maya Washington opened the game with a bunt single and Lashanda Washington followed with a single to right. A little later in the Lady Broncos lineup, Jessica Randolph singled to right, advanced to second on a Bowie State error and allowed Washington and Washington to score.
Bowie State (1-2, 1-0 CIAA) finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 6th, banging out three hits. Freshman
Sharde Alls reached on an infield single and
Haley Snyder advanced her to second on a single to center. Alls and Snyder moved up 60 feet on an error by the FSU catcher. Freshman
Raenelle Taylor doubled to center, scoring Alls and Snyder to tie the game at 2-2.
Clayborne recorded her only hit of the game in the bottom of the 7th via a bunt and advanced to second on an error by Fayetteville State's third baseman. Freshman
Cara Nance hit a sacrifice fly to center advancing Clayborne to third. Lewis stepped to the dish and singled, allowing Clayborne to score the winning run.
Maya Washington and Jessica Randolph paced Fayetteville State with three and two hits respectively.
