(RALEIGH, N.C.) The Lady Bulldogs notched their second straight win after shutting out Livingstone College 9-0 in Bowie State's second game of the weekend CIAA Round-Up at Walnut Creek Complex. The win improved the Bowie State record to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA.
Freshman
Raenelle Taylor recorded the first Lady Bulldogs hit of the game in the bottom of the second, stroking a double to left advancing fellow freshman
Sharde Alls to third. Alls' led off the inning with a walk and sophomore
Haley Snyder reached on a fielder's choice. Junior
Amanda Ray gave herself up on a sacrifice bunt, allowing Alls and Taylor to score for a 2-0 lead.
Bowie State increased their lead to 8-0 after three innings, belting out seven hits in the third. Six different Lady Bulldogs recorded singles in the inning.
Freshman
Cara Nance made the score 9-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning, scoring via a wild pitch by Livingstone's Phylicia Egbuna. Nance reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Livingstone (2-4, 0-2 CIAA) went down in order in the top of the 5th inning, giving Bowie State the victory by way of the NCAA 8-run mercy rule.
Justine Smith and
Amanda Ray recorded a pair of hits each to lead Bowie State. Sophomore
Mariela Hernandez pitched a complete game, striking out four and allowed just one hit.
Bowie State will return to action Saturday (3/10) morning with a 9:30 am contest against Shaw University followed by a 1:30 pm game versus Winston-Salem State University.
