"This was a tremendous opportunity for us", said fifth year head coach Darrell Brooks. "I'm really pleased with our guys' effort. One of the things that we told them was this game wasn't going to define us as a team."
Rodney Hood registered 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists to lead Duke Blue Devils. Hood was one of four Blue Devils to reach double-figures in scoring in the contest.

Duke led 54-40 at halftime despite allowing the Bulldogs to shoot 58 percent from the floor. The Blue Devils got to the free throw line 26 times in the opening half of the play and finished the contest 34-of-50 (.680) from the charity stripe. "We out rebounded them in the first half, which was big … Shot 58 percent from the field in the first half, 50 percent from the three and we only took two threes", stated Brooks.
Darrell Brooks

The Blue Devils finished the contest with 20 assists against nine turnovers, while shooting 45.6 percent (31-of-68) from the field. Jefferson, Hood and Parker were extremely efficient from the field, combining to go 18-of-26 (.692) from the field, including 16-of-19 (.842) from inside the three-point arc.

Duke forced 23 Bulldog turnovers and outscored Bowie State 27-9 in points off turnovers.

When asked about the Cameron Indoor Stadium atmosphere, Brooks said, "We won't see anything like this in our league and we wanted them to enjoy the moment, get into the moment, play as hard as you can and then we'll see what happens at the end."

The Bulldogs play one more exhibition on Saturday, November 2nd at George Washington before opening the regular season with a non-conference contest at Fairmont State University on November 9th.
