Box Score 2 BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State University softball team are beginning to jell and played with a lot of spirit in spite of dropping 9-0 and 11-3 decisions to Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
In the first game, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind early but managed a season-high six hits against the Marauders. Sophomore

Aiyana McNair tallied a pair of hits each. Senior
Megan Alexander and junior
Erica Whitehead accounted for one hit apiece. Alexander was the pitcher of record and allowed nine hits over five innings in BSU's 9-0 opening game loss.
Millersville (3-1) jumped out to a cushy 7-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning of game two before the Lady Bulldogs pushed across their first run in the bottom half of the frame. Clayborne began the inning with a single to right center and later scored on an Alexander ground out.
The Lady Bulldogs bats came alive in the bottom of the 3rd inning, pounding out three hits. Clayborne picked up her third hit, while Alexander stroked her second hit of the afternoon. Sophomore
Hayley Flint laced a single through the left side of the Millersville defense for her first hit, trimming the margin to 7-3 heading into the top of the 4th inning.
Both teams went scoreless over the next two innings before Millersville plated four in the top of the 5th inning to extend the Marauders lead to 11-3. The Marauders accounted for 14 hits against three different Bowie State pitchers.
Bowie State (0-9) went down in order in the bottom of the 5th to end the game early via the NCAA 8-Run Mercy Rule. The Lady Bulldogs set a new season-high in hits, in the final game of the twin bill, banging out eight hits.
Alexander pushed across two of BSU's three RBI in the nightcap and took the loss in the circle.
Bowie State is scheduled to return to action Friday (March 8) against Pace University in a non-conference doubleheader at the Virginia Union University Softball Cluster in Richmond, Va.
