RICHMOND, Va. – The CIAA Southern Division leading Lady Bears of Shaw University improved their record to 17-2 overall (12-0 CIAA) after cruising to a 9-0 tennis win over Bowie State.
The Lady Bulldogs (6-9, 5-9 CIAA) were shutout 8-0 at every singles match except for No. 5 Singles. In that contest, Bowie State freshman
Mieke Allen (Laurel, Md.) battled Shaw's Desiree Bell before falling 9-8 with the Lady Bears winning a 7-2 tie-breaker.
Shaw was just as strong in doubles play, taking identical 8-0 decisions at No. 1 and 2 Doubles. Bowie State's Allen and sophomore
Diara Mackey (Baltimore, Md.) made Shaw's Bell and Menel Bencheikh earn a hard fought 8-6 victory at No. 3 Doubles.
Bowie State University returns home to host (Division I) Coppin State University at 2 pm Wednesday (4/10) to close out the Lady Bulldogs home portion of their schedule. Senior
