Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – Bowie State softball closed out the CIAA Round-Up with wins over Johnson C. Smith and Livingstone by scores of 4-2 and 7-3 respectively. The victories improve the Lady Bulldogs overall record to 4-16 and 3-6 in conference play.

Cassandra Clayborne (Damascus, Md.) opened the Lady Bulldogs half of the 1st inning with an inside the park homer to pull BSU within one.
The Lady Golden Bulls maintained their narrow lead until the bottom of the 4th inning when the Lady Bulldogs plated two to take a 3-2 lead. Junior
Hayley Flint (Mesa, Ariz.) reached on a fielder's choice and crossed the plate following a home run by senior
Adria Lewis (Cumberland, Md.).
Bowie State added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning when Flint scored on an error by the JCSU second baseman.
Johnson C. Smith went down in order in the bottom of the 6th inning and senior
Mariela Hernandez (Del Rio, Texas) picked up the win, striking out six, walked two and allowed five hits.
In game two of the day, the Lady Bulldogs jumped all over Livingstone's Lady Blue Bears, scoring five runs on just three hits in the top of the first inning. BSU's three hits came off the bats of Lewis, Flint and junior
Megan Windsor (Upper Marlboro, Md.).
Bowie State pushed one across the dish in the 3rd and 6th innings to take a 7-0 lead and were in completely control.
The Lady Blue Bears put together a pretty good 6th inning, collecting a pair of hits and scored three runs to close the deficit to 7-3. However, it was too little too late.
Clayborne and Flint tallied two hits each against Livingstone, while Lewis, Windsor, juniors
Miranda Luna (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and
Erica Atkins (Burtonsville, Md.) and
Victoria Lizardo (Baltimore, Md.) added one hit apiece. Windsor earned her first victory of the season in circle, pitching a complete game, allowing five hits but struck out three.
Bowie State returns to action on Thursday (3/27) making a non-conference road trip to Millersville (Pa.) University for a 3 pm doubleheader. The Lady Bulldogs make their home debut on Saturday (3/29), hosting Virginia State in a CIAA Northern Division clash at 1 pm.
