Donia Naylor (Washington, D.C.) netted a career-high 25 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to lead Bowie State women's basketball to an impressive 72-57 victory over division foe Virginia Union on Wednesday evening. The win sets the Lady Bulldogs season mark at 8-9, 3-5 in conference play and 1-1 in the North.

Ty-Nita Baker (Houston, Miss.) added 18 points to go along with four rebounds, three steals and one steal while freshman
Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) tallied 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, a personal season-best seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Sheldeen Joseph (Belair St. Vincent and the Grenadines, W.I.) chipped in nine points while juniors
Jourdan Stanhope (Columbus, Ohio) and
Whitney King (Pocomoke City, Md.) contributed three points apiece. Senior

The first half of play featured nine ties and seven lead changes and sent the two teams into intermission tied at 34-all. Bowie State held a 23-22 rebound advantage in the first 20 minutes but turned the ball over 11 times resulting in 10 Virginia Union points.
Naylor scored the first two points of the second half and the Lady Bulldogs would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the contest.
Virginia Union's Ashle Freeman (Richmond, Va.) created the 10th and final tie of the game with a layup at the 14:00 mark of the final period. However, Bowie State went on an 11-2 run to open up a 53-43 Lady Bulldogs lead four minutes later.
The Lady Bulldogs closed the game with a 19-13 run to earn their first CIAA division game of the season.
ShaHadah Barrett (Norfolk, Va.) paced the Virginia Union Lady Panthers (5-11, 1-6 CIAA, 0-2 CIAA) offense with 13 points while Jasmin Dancy (Silver Spring, Md.) added 11 points in the loss. Taylor White (LaPlata, Md.) came off the visitor's bench to haul down a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with six points.
"It was just an impressive second half that we haven't played all year and hope we can continue to play that well the rest of the season", said fifth-year head coach
Renard Smith. "Naylor's career-high was big for us and the ladies really wanted it tonight."
The Lady Bulldogs will hit the road for their next contest, traveling to Murfreesboro, N.C. to take on the Hawks of Chowan University at 2 pm on Saturday (1/24) afternoon.
