Volleyball Disposes of Cheyney in Four Sets

BOWIE, Md. - - Bowie State University disposed of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania in non-conference volleyball action on Tuesday (10/27) night, beating the Lady Wolves in four sets (25-14, 25-13, 23-25 and 25-13). The win snapped a two-game skid for the Lady Bulldogs and sets their season record at 7-18.
 
Senior Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) put down a match-high 13 kills on 32 attempts and junior Jasmine Ashe (Baltimore, Md.) contributed 10 kills on 19 attempts in the Lady Bulldogs victory. Senior Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) paced Bowie State defensively with a match-high career-best 27 digs while Ngundam picked up 10 digs.
 
Redshirt junior Alicia Grant (Edgewood, Md.) recorded nine digs to go along with a match-high six service aces. Lady Bulldogs junior Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md.) led both teams with 28 assists and added eight digs.
 
Senior Alexis Fisher (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and sophomore Valerie Taylor (Walkersville, Md.) tallied seven kills apiece while junior Breiona Garrison netted four kills.  
 
Cheyney (2-20) was led on offense by Chelsea Hutson (Phoenix, Ariz.) with a team-high 11 kills on a team-best 47 attacks and added 13 dogs for the Lady Wolves. Sabrina Hill-Williams (Bowie, Md.) and Kilondra Davis (Cocoa, Fla.) recorded double-digit digs with a dozen each.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will have a busy weekend, making up the postponed (October 3-4) CIAA Round-Up #2. Bowie State will travel to Lincoln (Pa.) University for Saturday (10/31) matches versus Shaw (11 a.m.) and St. Augustine's (3 p.m.) and a 12 pm matchup against Fayetteville State on Sunday (11/1).
