LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Bowie University volleyball team dropped a pair of CIAA crossover matches on Saturday at the CIAA Round-Up. The Lady Bulldogs opened the first day of play with a 3-0 loss to Saint Augustine's University and were defeated by Fayetteville State University 3-0 in their second match of the day.
In the first match of the day, the Lady Bulldogs went down to the Lady Falcons 25-15 in the first set, 25-19 in the second set and 25-17 in set three.
Senior
Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) paced the Lady Bulldogs with eight kills while junior
Breiona Garrison (Baltimore, Md.) added six kills. Junior
Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md.) tallied 14 assists while junior
Amy Harvey (Laurel, Md.) added five assists. Senior
Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) accounted for a team-high 16 digs.
Olivia Porter led the Lady Falcons with 13 kills in the win while Akera McPhaul notched seven kills to aid the effort. Juiliseea Thomas tallied a match-high 16 assists with Zoey Isom grabbing a match-high 17 digs.
Bowie State couldn't get much traction in the second contest of the afternoon either. Fayetteville State garnered identical 25-12 wins in the first two sets and held off the Lady Bulldogs in the final set 25-20.
Junior
Jasmine Ashe (Baltimore, Md.) notched a team-high seven kills in the setback with Ngudam adding six kills. Garrison and senior
Alexis Fisher (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) contributed three kills each while redshirt junior
Alicia Grant (Edgewood, Md.) chipped in a pair of kills.
Samira Luis notched a match-high eight kills for FSU's Lady Broncos while the trio of Shavon Shaw, Ashley Britton and Jessica Hardy recorded five kills apiece. Ashley Smith led Fayetteville State with 16 assists while Shaw and Luis picked up a match-high 12 digs each.
The Lady Bulldogs conclude play at the CIAA Round-Up on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match against Shaw University.
