Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Bowie State University volleyball team made it two wins in a row on Saturday (9/19), taking down Livingstone College 3-2 to end day one of the CIAA Round-Up. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Blue Bears by sets of 18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-14 and 15-8.
With the victory, Bowie State improves to 4-8 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA while Livingstone dips to 3-5 overall.
Leading the attack for the Lady Bulldogs was senior
Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) with a team-high 16 kills on 32 attacks. Senior
Alexis Fisher (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and sophomore
Valerie Taylor (Walkersville, Md.) added nine and seven kills respectively while junior
Amy Harvey (Laurel, Md.) was responsible for a match-high 23 assists in Bowie State's five set win. Harvey also contributed five kills and three block assists.
Redshirt senior
Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) tallied 13 digs and four service aces, both match-highs.
Lareecia Swiney was Livingstone's offensive work horse, pacing the team with kills of 47 attacks and added three service aces and five digs. Ebony Moore and Kierra Acuff combinded for seven kills in the loss. Acuff was responsible for 19 of the Lady Blue Bears' 24 assists.
The Lady Bulldogs will conclude the weekend Round-up against the host Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University. Match time is 11 a.m. Sunday morning in Whitaker Gymnasium.
