Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (6-4, 3-0 CIAA) captured a three-set win over the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs (4-9, 2-1 CIAA), Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rams won all three sets of the match to take the victory, 25-12, 25-14, and 25-21.
Senior
Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) paced the Lady Bulldogs with five kills and added three digs and two block assists. Sophomore
Valerie Taylor (Walkersville, Md.) contributed four kills on 15 attacks to go along with one solo block and two block assists.
Junior
Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md.) was Bowie State's top setup person, accounting for 14 of the Lady Bulldogs' 15 total assists. Senior
Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the teams' defense with 10 digs while redshirt junior
Alicia Grant (Edgewood, Md.) picked up seven digs in the match.
The Lady Rams had a great overall effort as the team played well in all facets of the game. Offensively, the Rams totaled 29 kills while allowing just 18 kills for the Lady Bulldogs. Winston-Salem State added nine service aces. Olivia Owens led the way for the Lady Rams with nine kills and six total blocks (one solo) in the match and Teynia Shepherd also added seven kills in the match.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Thursday (September 24th), making a trip to Virginia State University. Match time is 6 p.m. in Daniel Gymnasium.
