PETERSBURG, Va. - The Bowie State University volleyball opened CIAA Northern Division play with a 3-0 loss at Virginia State University on Thursday evening. The Lady Bulldogs dip to 4-10 on the season and 2-2 in the conference and 0-1 in the CIAA North.
Virginia State (5-6, 3-1, 1-0) had little trouble with Lady Bulldogs, topping Bowie State 25-11 in the first set, 25-13 in the second set and 25-15 in set three.
Senior
Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) tallied a team-high four kills in the contest followed by junior
Breiona Garrison (Baltimore, Md.) with three kills. Sophomore
Valerie Taylor (Walkersville, Md.) accounted for a pair of kills while three other Bowie State players added one kill each in the loss.
Sophomore
Cheyenne Salter (Baltimore, Md.) led the Lady Bulldogs with five assists. Junior
Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md.) handed out three assists while Ngundam was responsible for one assist. Ngundam also paced Bowie State in digs with seven and redshirt senior
Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) added six digs.
Tiara Ramey led the charge for the Trojans with 11 kills in the win and Alexsys Pullen added a half dozen kills. Miranda Bass tallied a match-high 24 assists while Adriana Hazou led Bowie State on defense with 16 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Sunday (September 27th) taking on division leading Chowan University at 1 pm in the Hawks' Helms Center.
