Bowie State Volleyball Drops a Pair at West Chester Ramfest

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bowie State University volleyball team opened their 2015 season on Friday, dropping a pair of matches at the West Chester (Pa.) University Ramfest.
 
In the first match of the day against Goldey-Beacom College, the Lady Bulldogs played extremely well before the Lightning held on down the stretch to edge Bowie State by a score of 25-23 in set one. The Lady Bulldogs show positive signs in sets two and three, but came up a little short, falling 25-18 and 25-17, giving Goldey-Beacom the three-set victory.  BSU was led by senior Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.), who tallied four kills.  Junior Breiona Garrison (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Valerie Taylor (Walkersville, Md.) added three kills each while junior Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md.) had five assists.  Defensively, Ngundam had a team-high six digs while senior Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, M.M.) and junior Amy Harvey (Laurel, Md.) contributed five digs each.
 
In the second match of the day, the Lady Bulldogs were simply overpowered by host West Chester, falling in straight sets by scores of 9-25, 9-25 and 8-25).  Junior Jasmine Ashe (Baltimore, Md.) led Bowie State with three kills while Ngundam recorded a pair of kills in the loss.  Brisbon paced the Lady Bulldogs with five assists in the match.
 
The Lady Bulldogs return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 5 for the final day of the Ramfest, taking on Holy Family University at 11:00 a.m. and Ursuline College at 3:00 p.m.
