TAKOMA PARK, Md. – It took just 51 minutes for Bowie State University volleyball to thump Washington Adventist University 3-0 on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-4, 25-15 and 25-4 in non-conference play.
Bowie State (1-4) was led on offense by sophomore
Valerie Taylor (Walkersville, Md.) and junior
Breiona Garrison (Baltimore, Md.) with a match-high six kills each. Junior
Alexis Fisher (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) added four kills in the three set sweep while junior
Jasmine Ashe (Baltimore, Md.) recorded a pair of kills.
Sophomore
Cheyenne Salter (Baltimore, Md.) tallied match-highs of nine assists and 15 service aces and senior
Yaje Ngundam served up nine aces.
Defensively, the Lady Bulldogs were paced by sophomore
Kelisha Perry (Baltimore, Md.) with five digs followed by Garrison with four digs. Salter, Taylor and junior
Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md.) accounted for three digs each.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-2 advantage in set one and never looked, cruising to the 25-4 victory in an extremely hot Pitt on the WAU campus.
The Washington Adventist shock scored the first point of set two but the Lady Bulldogs responded with seven straight points to quiet the 125 in attendance. The Shock continued to play hard but they were no real threat to the Lady Bulldogs.
Washington Adventist was able to close their deficit to three four times with the last coming at 14-11. From there, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Shock 11-4 to wrap up set two by a score of 25-15.
The Shock jumped out to a surprising 4-0 lead in set three. However, the Lady Bulldogs were unfazed. Taylor and Salter began the Lady Bulldogs rally. Salter would go on to serve out the rest of way as Bowie State closed out the final set with 25 straight points.
Delaina Williams and Sierra Simons led Washington Adventist (0-1) with three kills in the loss. Alejandra Campos was responsible for two of the Shock's six service aces. Sarah Allsop picked up a match-high 10 digs.
Bowie State will open the home portion of their schedule tomorrow night (Sept. 9
th) hosting Goldey-Beacom College. Match time for the Lady Bulldogs versus Lightning is set for 7 pm in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
