Late Surge Lifts Indiana (Pa.) Past Bowie State, 80-67

INDIANA, Pa. – The #24 ranked Indiana (Pa.) University Crimson Hawks used a 9-0 late second half run to slip past Bowie State University 80-67 on Tuesday evening in non-conference men's basketball action.
 
"We played well in spurts but we're not being solid enough in areas for 40 minutes", said Bowie State Head Coach Darrell Brooks. "It's November 15th, we're 1-2 but we'll be fine."
 
Bowie State (1-2) scored the first points of the game but Indiana (Pa.) ran off 10 straight points forcing the Bulldogs to burn a 30 second timeout. Indiana (Pa.) pushed its lead to 19-7 midway through the first half on hot shooting.
 
The Bulldogs closed to within six (34-28) following a jumper by junior Ahmaad Wilson (Baltimore, Md.) with 1:08 remaining but Indiana (Pa.) stepped into halftime leading Bowie State by a score of 37-28. IUP made 13-of-27 first half field goals (48.1 percent) compared to 12-of-30 for BSU (40 percent).
 
IUP (3-0) pushed the lead back up to double digits (49-37) following a 3-pointer by Dante Lombardi at the 13:43 mark of the second half. Indiana. Bowie State closed the gap to three twice over the next five minutes and went into the 7:59 media timeout trailing 58-55. A layup by junior Omari George (Baltimore, Md.) cut the deficit down to one at 58-57 only to have the Crimson Hawks go on a 9-0 run to give the Hawks a 67-57 lead with 6:05 to go in the game.
 
Wilson and George led the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 and 19 points respectively. Senior Michael Briscoe (Waldorf, Md.) paced Bowie State on the glass, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds and handed out season-high six assists.
 
Bowie State turned the ball over 19 times which translated into 26 points for Indiana (Pa.). The Bulldogs bench outscored the Hawks bench 31-13.
 
The Bulldogs ended the game shooting 45.6 percent from the field (26-of-57), which included 5-of-11 beyond the arc (45.5 percent) and knocked down 10-of-15 free throws (66.7 percent). Bowie State controlled the glass, out-rebounding Indiana (Pa.) 34-29.
 
Dante Lombardi fell just short of a double-double adding 13 points and a game-high nine assists. Blake Danielak rounded out IUP's double figure scorers with 10 points. Jacobo Diaz recorded a double-double, scoring 22 points and hauled down 13 rebounds, while Anthony Glover contributed 19 points for Indiana (Pa.) in the win.
 
The Hawks finished the night with a 50 percent field goal shooting percentage (29-of-58), which included 11-of-27 behind the 3-point line (40.7 percent) and converted 11-of-15 free throws (73.3 percent.
 
The Bulldogs will make its home debut this Saturday (Nov. 19th) hosting Alderson Broaddus University at 4 p.m. in the A.C. Jordan Arena.
