RALEIGH, N.C. – Bowie State University softball picked up a convincing 13-5 CIAA Round-Up victory over the defending conference champions of Saint Augustine's University on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Lady Bulldogs record to 7-9 overall and 3-1 in league play.
The Lady Bulldogs tallied 10 hits and was led by freshman
Tiffany Bearns (Lusby, Md.) with three hits and sophomore
Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) added a pair of hits in the 8-run mercy rule victory. Five other Bowie State players accounted for one hit each. Sophomore Stephanie Ray (Damascus, Md.) was one of the five with one hit, tied for team-high RBI honors with two and earned the win in the circle. Ray struck out four and moved her record to 4-5 on the season.
Saint Augustine's (3-15, 2-2 CIAA) was led by Jasmine Rios with three of the teams' eight hits in four plate appearances.
The Lady Bulldogs will close out the CIAA Round-Up weekend on Sunday (3/20) will games against Shaw at 11 a.m. and Winston-Salem State at 1:30 p.m.
