Bowie State Opens CIAA Division Play with 3-0 Setback to Virginia State

BOWIE, Md. - Bowie State University women's volleyball never really got on track Thursday evening, falling in straight sets to Virginia State University by scores of 25-9 25-6 and 25-11 . This was the conference divisional opener for both teams.
 
Visiting Virginia State dominated from start to finish in 3-0, 54 minute match. The loss sets the Bowie State record at 0-6 overall, 0-4 in the CIAA and 0-1 in the North.
 
Bowie State senior Breiona Garrison (Baltimore, Md.) accounted for a third of the teams' nine total kills and added a pair of digs. Junior Tia Williams (Abingdon, Md.) and sophomore Cheyenne Salter (Baltimore, Md.) contributed a pair of kills each, while senior Amy Harvey (Laurel, Md.) and freshman Jada Mccullough (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in one kill each. Harvey was the assist leader for the Lady Bulldogs with four.
 
Myia Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) tallied a match-high 11 kills on 14 attacks to go along with two solo blocks and a pair of block assists for the Trojans. Other top Virginia State performers include Sydney Uko (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Alexsys Pullen (Troy, Mich.) with seven kills each and Tiara Ramey (Augusta, Ga.) with a half dozen kills in the victory.
 
Miranda Bass (Gainesville, Fla.) was Virginia State's primary setup artist, contributing a match-high 14 assists while teammate Pullen was responsible for nine assists.
 
Virginia State (7-4, 3-1 CIAA, 1-0 North) ended the match with a .452 to minus .217 attack percentage.
 
Bowie State will take a couple of days off before returning to the court on Sunday (September 25), hosting the Hawks of Chowan University at 1 p.m.
