LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Bowie State University volleyball dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, falling to Goldey-Beacom College and Georgian Court University by identical scores of 3-0. Goldey-Beacom won 25-11, 25-8 and 25-17 in the Bulldogs' opening match and host Georgian Court won by set scores of 25-11, 25-6 and 25-10.
Over the two sets, Bowie State (4-21) was led by freshman
Caitland Okorafor (Hyattsville, Md.) with five kills while seniors
Tia Williams (Abingdon, Md.) and
Kiana Moore (Newark, Del.) along with freshman
Sydney Tucker (Columbia, Md.) added four kills apiece on a combined 54 attacks. Freshman
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) served up three kills in the two matches and added four digs.
Kilana Jenkins (Bridgeport, Conn.) picked up a team-high nine digs while
Sydney Tucker and redshirt sophomore chipped in a half dozen digs in the Bulldogs' two matches. Freshman
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) was responsible for 13 of the Bulldogs' 23 assists and Menchaca contributed nine assists overall.
Breanne Haley and Jax Babezki had eight kills apiece and Makinsie Balderson pounded down seven kills for Goldey-Beacom (11-15). Olivia Florence dished 16 assists and Sydney Fulton added 14 for the Lightning in the straight set victory.
In the nightcap, it took Georgian Court (11-17) an even 50 minutes to dispose of Bowie State. Aubrey Binkley blasted seven kills to complement her five service aces. Ashley Pierson distributed another 13 assists in the triumph and Jasmine Martin popped five kills to go along with five digs.
The Bulldogs return to conference action on Monday (October 30), traveling south to take on the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union in a 6 p.m. CIAA North match in Barco-Stevens Hall.
