PETERSBURG, Va. – The Bowie State Bulldogs volleyball team was swept on day one of CIAA Round-Up #2, falling 3-0 (25-21, 25-17 and 25-12) to Saint Augustine's and 3-0 (25-11, 25-8 and 25-20) to Winston-Salem State. The event was hosted by Virginia State University in the Multipurpose Center.
Senior
Tia Williams (Abingdon, Md.) and freshman
Sydney Tucker (Columbia, Md.) tallied a half dozen kills each on a combined 42 attacks to lead Bowie State. Freshman
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) was responsible for 12 assists over the two matches while junior
Brittainy Houck (Burns, Ore.) and redshirt sophomore
Brianna Myers (Jessup, Md.) accounted for 10 and 15 digs respectively for the Bulldogs.
Williams and Tucker paced the Bulldogs in the opening match versus Saint Augustine's, recording four kills each on a combined 21 attacks while junior
Courtney Crawford (Lanham, Md.) contributed three kills and added one block assist. Tucker along with freshman
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) had eight and six assists respectively for Bowie State. Top defenders against Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons were Houck and Myers with eight and six digs respectively.
Shakera Hall led Saint Augustine's with 13 kills to go along with one service ace and four digs. Mechele Moss just missed double-digit kills, accounting for nine and added one assist, one service ace and six digs.
In Bowie State's match against Winston-Salem State, the Bulldogs managed only 12 kills with Myers leading the team with three on 16 attacks and added a team-high nine digs and two assists.
Winston-Salem State's Rams were led by Sydney Holland with six kills while the duo of Brycelin Spidel and Christa Brown chipped in five kills apiece in the straight set win.
The Bulldogs (0-14, 0-8 CIAA) were wrap up the Round-Up with a Sunday (10/1) 11 a.m. match against Shaw.
