RICHMOND, Va. – Bowie State volleyball gave tremendous effort at Virginia Union on Monday night. However, the Bulldogs were defeated by the Lady Panthers 3-0 (7-25, 19-25 and 12-25) in CIAA Northern Division action.
The setback drops Bowie State's season mark to 1-10 overall, 0-10 in the league and 0-4 in the division. With the victory Virginia Union ups its overall record to 6-12, 5-4 in conference play and 2-1 in the North.
Freshman
Madison Marshall (Albany, N.Y.) along with sophomore
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) knocked down five kills each on a combined 42 attacks. Marshall also led the Bulldogs on defense with nine digs. Sophomore
Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.) and
Chelsea Beaudoin (Upper Marlboro, Md.) chipped in three digs each while junior
Shalom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, Md.) and senior
Kilana Jenkins (Bridgeport, Conn.) contributed two and one kill respectively. Sophomore
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) accounted for 14 of the Bulldogs' 16 set assists.
Leading the attack for Virginia Union were Jada Starling and Taurie Magee with none kills apiece. The Lady Panthers duo of Ambryanna Moore and Zaquae Downton added eight kills each while Kamryn Young tallied four kills in the sweep.
Bowie State will return to the court Thursday, October 4th, hosting the division leading Trojans of Virginia State at 6 p.m. in the Leonidas S. James Complex (A.C. Jordan Arena).
