Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Virginia Union and Fayetteville State

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State volleyball hosted a tri-match on Saturday, dropping straight set matches to Virginia Union and Fayetteville State. The losses set the Bulldogs record at 1-16 overall and 0-15 in CIAA play.
 
In the opening match of the day, Bowie State were defeated by Virginia Union by scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-15. The Bulldogs finished the match with an attack percentage of .043 compared to .389 for the Lady Panthers.
 
Sophomore Chelsea Beaudoin (Upper Marlboro, Md.) led Bowie State with five kills on 10 attacks to go along with three digs while freshman Madison Marshall (Albany, N.Y.) and sophomore Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) contributed four kills each on a combined 31 attacks. Sophomore Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) tallied 15 of Bowie State's 16 assists and tied for team high dig honors with five. Senior Kilana Jenkins (Bridgeport, Conn.) was responsible for five digs.
 
The Virginia Union duo of Jayshi Oatley and Ambryanna Moore put down nine and eight kills respectively and Zaquae Downton added six kills of her own. Jada Starling and Jamaica Adams picked up a half dozen digs each for the Lady Panthers. As a team, Virginia Union accounted for 34 total assists with A'rmarie Wright and Minne Masoe responsible for 20 and 10 respectively.
 
In match two, the Bulldogs fell to the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos by scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-16. The visiting Lady Broncos recorded an attack percentage of .420 compared to a minus .039 for the Bulldogs.
 
Beaudoin paced Bowie State in kills in match two as well, knocking down seven of the Bulldogs 20 total kills. Marshall and Menchaca chipped in four kills apiece in the loss. Tucker recorded 13 assists while junior Shalom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.) added two and one assist respectively for the Bulldogs.
 
Diamond Holmes, Teeya McLean and Jessica Williams did most of the damage for Fayetteville State, tallying 10 kills each in the Lady Broncos sweep. Nakia McKinnie was FSU's leader in assists with 27 to go along with seven digs. Meagan Green led Fayetteville State on defense with a match-high eight digs.
 
Bowie State returns to the court Thursday (October 25th) hosting Felician College at 4 p.m.
