BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State University volleyball team captured its first sweep of the season on Saturday afternoon, posting a 3-0 sweep over Cheyney University in a non-conference contest. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-19 against the Lady Wolves.
Leading the charge for Bowie State in match one was
Soljala Jones with a match-high seven kills on 10 attacks followed by
Shalom Omo-Osagie with a half dozen kills on 13 attacks.
Chelsea Beaudoin,
Madison Marshall and
Bianca Tucker tallied three kills each on a combined 29 attacks while
Oladia Menchaca and
Jahtera Kiah chipped in two kills and one kill respectively. Menchaca contributed a match-high seven service aces while Tucker was responsible for five service aces to go along with 16 assists in the win. Beaudoin and Menchaca paced the Bulldogs defense with nine and seven digs respectively.
Cheyney (2-14) was led by Virshawna Campbell and Alaiya Cave with three kills apiece on a combined 35 attacks. Campbell, Cave Tylisha Ramos-Devine and Monica Pierre accounted for five digs each in the loss.
In match two versus conference foe Chowan, the Hawks held off Bowie State's Bulldogs in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-19.
Jones, Beaudoin and Marshall led the Bulldogs with four kills apiece while Tucker was Bowie State's primary setter, leading the team with 12. Kiah recorded double-digit digs with 11 and Mechaca added nine digs to go along with three kills and three assists.
Chowan (10-14, 10-5 CIAA) was paced by the Hawks trio of Millica Vejnovic, Raven Finley-Flowers and Courtney O'Keefe with a match-high eight kills each. Vejnovic was credited with 11 kills while Micayla Pope was responsible for a double-double of 11 digs a match-high 24 assists.
Bowie State (2-18, 0-16 CIAA) will play its final home match of the season – Tuesday, October 30th at 6 p.m. versus Washington Adventist University.
