Millersville Softball Defeats Bowie State’s Bulldogs 17-3 and 16-1 in Non-Conference Play

BOWIE, Md. - The Millersville Marauders (11-8) handed the Bowie State softball team a pair of non-conference setbacks on Monday (3/26) afternoon, topping the Bulldogs 17-3 and 16-1. Other than Jones, the only other Bulldogs to garner a hit were fellow seniors Tiffany Bearns (Lusby, Md.), Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) and Ja'seph Smith (Bowie, Md.) with each responsible for one.

The Marauders held a 2-0 advantage after half an inning in game one, then exploded for nine runs on nine hits in the top of the second and added one run in the third inning for a comfortable 12-0 lead.

Bowie State's first run in the opening game came via a dropped ball by Millersville's catcher after a swinging strike out by BSU's Smith. On the throw down to first to get Smith out, redshirt sophomore Madison Margas (Stevensville, Md.) scored from third on the throw.

The Bulldogs pushed their other two runs across the dish in the bottom of the 5th inning following a single by Jones, scoring Smith and Margas.

Allie Janowiak (Clarksburg, Md.) paced Millersville's Marauders in the opening game with five hits which included a pair of home runs. As a team, Millersville went over the Bulldogs fence seven times in game one.

Ochoa pitched all of game one, giving up 21 hits but the BSU defense didn't help matters accounting for five errors.

It was of the same in game two as Millersville led Bowie State 2-0 after one inning of play. Like game one, Millersville roughed up Inaya Jones in the second and third innings, scoring five runs in each inning to take a commanding 12-0 lead.

Bowie State's lone run in game two, came in the bottom of the third courtesy of a home run to left center by Bearns, her first of the season.

The Marauders recorded its final four runs of he nightcap in the top of the 4th inning with three coming across the plate after shot over the left center field fence by Raeann Busky (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). Millersville's Faith Willenbrock (Glenmoore, Pa.) followed that with a solo blast to account for the final margin of 16-1.

Bowie State will continue non-conference play on Tuesday (3/27) hosting Trinity (D.C.) University in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Bulldogs Field.
