CHARLOTTE, N.C. - With the close of the regular season, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) releases its 2018 CIAA Softball Championship Bracket. The three-day, double elimination championship will open with two (2) 12:00 p.m. games on Monday, April 30th at Moyer Park in Salem, Va.

Bowie State (12-17, 7-9 CIAA, 5-5 North) will enter the Softball Tournament as the #2 seed in the Northern Division of the CIAA and will face the #1 seed in the south, Saint Augustine's University (16-8, 13-3 CIAA, 9-1 South), at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30. The Bowie State Bulldogs finished the 2017 season runner-up to the Hawks of Chowan.

The defending Champion Hawks of Chowan enter this year's tournament No. 1 of the Northern Division after marking a perfect 10-0 season in the division (16-0 conference, 27-14 overall). In the first round of the tournament, the Hawks will meet the South's No. 4 Bears of Shaw University (10-18, 8-8 CIAA, 4-6 South).
The additional contest of the opening round will feature South No. 2 Fayetteville State University (11-23, 10-6 CIAA, 7-3 South) versus North No. 3 Virginia State University (17-14, 12-4 CIAA, 6-4 North) and No.2 North Virginia Union University (15-8, 10-6 CIAA, 7-3 North) will face No. 3 South Winston-Salem State University (11-24, 9-7 CIAA, 6-4 South).
The Championship Consolation Round will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with the loser of the SAU/BSU game versus the loser of the VUU/WSSU contest. The final game of opening day will be a consolation contest between the loser of the FSU/VSU game versus the loser of CU/SU.
The double elimination tournament will continue into Tuesday with two 12:00 p.m. and two 2:30 p.m. games. The final game of Day 2 is slated for 5:00 p.m.
Championship finals will be played on Wednesday, May 2nd at 3:30 p.m. at Moyer Park. If a tiebreaker situation exists the ultimate elimination game will begin 30 minutes following the tie.
