ETTRICK, Va. – The Bowie State University volleyball team opened CIAA division play at Virginia State University on Tuesday evening, losing in straight sets 13-25, 8-25 and 18-25. With the setbacks, the Bulldogs' record dips to 1-7 overall, 0-7 in league play and 0-1 in the North.
Sophomore
Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.) recorded a team-best three kills on 11 attacks and added a pair of digs for the Bulldogs. Sophomore
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) and freshman
Madison Marshall (Albany, N.Y.) chipped in two kills each. Menchaca also accounted for all three of Bowie State's service aces.
Shalom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, Md.) was responsible for one kill in the match. Marshall also accounted for a half dozen digs on the night.
The Bowie State sophomore duo of
Chelsea Beaudoin (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and
Jahtera Kiah (Stevensville, Md.) paced the Bulldogs with nine and six digs respectively.
Virginia State (13-5, 7-2, 1-0) was led by Jailyn Ivey with a match-high 10 kills on 24 attacks to go along with five digs followed by Ambria McBride with eight kills in the sweep.
The Bulldogs will play its first home match of the season on Thursday (September 27) hosting Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 6 p.m. in the Leonidas S. James Complex (A.C. Jordan Arena).
