BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie State University volleyball team dropped a four-set home opener to Lincoln (Pa.) University, 3-1 (13-25, 19-25, 25-19 and 19-25) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division contest on Thursday evening. Â

The loss drops Bowie State to 1-8 on the season and 0-8 in the CIAA (0-1 in the division), while Lincoln (Pa.) picked up its first win of the year (1-8 overall, 1-6 CIAA and 1-0 North).

Sophomore
Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.) put down a match-high nine kills to lead Bowie State's Bulldogs. Freshman
Madison Marshall (Albany, N.Y.) tallied six kills while junior Shalom Oma-Osagie and sophomore
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) contributed five kills each for the Bulldogs in the loss. Marshall led Bowie State defensively with 13 digs and the combo of sophomores
Jahtera Kiah (Stevensville, Md.) and
Bianca Tucker were responsible for 12 and 11 digs.Â

Lincoln (Pa.) was led in the match by Amanda Lee (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with eight kills to go along with eight digs with a hitting percentage of .200. Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich. recorded a team-high 13 digs to lead the Lions defensively. Russaw and Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J.) shared the setting duties putting up 17 and three assists, respectively.

Bowie State returns to the court on Sunday (September 30th) hosting Elizabeth City State University at 4 p.m. in the Leonidas S. James Complex (A.C. Jordan Arena).
