ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Bowie State swept Elizabeth City State a little over a week ago on the Bulldogs home court. However, Elizabeth City State returned the favor on Sunday, defeating Bowie State 3-0 (25-14, 25-12 and 25-11) in CIAA division play in the R.L. Vaughan Center.
The loss sets Bowie State's record at 5-15 overall and 3-9 in league play while Elizabeth City State improves to 6-13 overall and 5-7 in the CIAA.
Junior
Caitland Okorafor (Hyattsville, Md.) led the Bulldogs with five kills while senior
Alana Matson (Baltimore, Md.) along with junior
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) contributed three kills each on a combined seven attacks. Tucker was also responsible for a match-high 11 assist in the contest.
Alexis Elliot led the Vikings in kills with six and Jahera Dangerfield contributed five kills to go along with five assist and two blocks. Asia Jones was ECSU's leader in assist with nine while Alexis Blackwell notched a match-high seven service aces.
In terms of team stats, the Bowie State Bulldogs record an attack percentage of minus .056 (29 kills and 22 errors on 54 attacks). Compare that to a .431 attack percentage for the Elizabeth City State Vikings (28 kills and six errors on 51 attacks.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 5) at home against Virginia Union in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division match at 6 p.m.
