Bowie State Volleyball Winless at CIAA Round-Up

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Bowie State University played in the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up hosted by Claflin University this past weekend. The Bulldogs lost two matches on Saturday's (10/5) opening day and dropped another pair on Sunday.
 
Madison Marshall recorded 11 kills and 14 digs while Neysha Washington picked up a team-high 16 digs in a 3-1 loss to Claflin University on Saturday, Oct. 5. The scores were 12-25, 25-15, 12-15 and 20-25.
 
The Bulldogs struggled in its second match of the day, falling 23-25, 9-25 and 10-25 to Winston-Salem State. As a team, Bowie State recorded an attack percentage of minus .141 compared to .346 on the plus side for Winston-Salem State. The Bulldogs tallied a meager 13 total kills on 85 attacks with five Bowie State players recorded a pair of kills each in the loss.
 
Day two started with a 3-0 setback to Fayetteville State by scores of 20-25, 16-25 and 9-25 and followed that with a 3-0 (20-25, 23-25 and 18-25) loss to Livingstone.
 
The Bowie State duo of Marshall and Soljala Jones led the Bulldogs with three kills each on a combined 27 attacks and Alana Matson chipped in a pair of kills versus FSU's Broncos. In Sunday's match against Livingstone, Marshall paced the Bulldogs with a match-high 10 kills on 35 attacks and added a pair of digs and one service ace. Bianca Tucker and Oladia Menchaca were responsible for 14 and eight assists respectively.
 
The Bulldogs (2-11 overall, 0-5 CIAA) are back in action on Tuesday (October 8) traveling to Lincoln (Pa.) to face the Lions at 6 p.m. in Manuel Rivero Hall.
