Belle's Career-High Propels Bowie State to 72-64 Road Win at Saint Augustine's

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior David Belle (Hyattsville, Md.) poured in a career-high 25 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor, propelling Bowie State to a 72-64 non-conference win at Saint Augustine's on Thursday evening. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 4-5 on the year and snap a four-game road losing streak.

Other than Belle's production, 10-of-11 Bowie State players scored with the duo of seniors Juwan Smith (Lexington Park, Md.) and Rinardo Perry (Washington, D.C.) scoring eight points each combined with the seniors Saiquan Jamison (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Yohance Fleming (Bowie, Md.) adding seven points apiece in the victory.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot a season-high 54 percent from the field, making 24-of-46 field goals and held advantages in the paint (36-20), points off turnovers (19-11) and bench points (26-18). Bowie State also turned the ball over a season-low nine times. Bowie State hit 6-of-11 3-pointers on the evening with Belle going 4-for-4 behind the 3-point line. Belle's four triples were also a personal career-high.

Jalen Gaddy led three Saint Augustine's players in double figures with 17 while Rashad George contributed 12 points and Marquie Clemonts chipped in 11 points. The Falcons outrebounded the Bulldogs 31-26 and held a 24-6 advantage in second chance points.

The Falcons were held to 21-of-52 shooting from the field (40 percent), which included 10-of-21 (48 percent) beyond the arc and Saint Augustine's made 63 percent of its free throws (12-of-19).

Saint Augustine's (2-2) scored the opening bucket of the game but Bowie State took its first lead (9-8) following a Fleming 3-pointer at the 14:42 mark of the opening half. From there, Bowie State used a 9-1 run and held that lead until a pair of Gaddy free throws with just over five minutes to go in the first half, shifted the advantage back over to the Falcons at 23-23.

A triple and traditional three-point play by Belle pushed Bowie State back on top but the Saint Augustine's Falcons were able to regain the lead and carried a 37-33 lead into halftime.

The game featured seven lead changes and four ties, but Bowie State's scored a layup at the 13:58 mark of the second half, giving Bowie State a 49-47 lead, they would not surrender.

Bowie State went on a couple of other mini runs and never allowed Saint Augustine's any closer than three points (57-54) at the 7:53 mark for the remainder of the contest.

The Bulldogs will remain in Raleigh before returning to the hardwood on Saturday (12/7), taking on Shaw University at 4 p.m. in the C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
