BOWIE, Md. – The CIAA northern division leading Chowan Hawks swept Bowie State in the regular season conference finale for both teams, beating the Bulldogs 8-0 and 12-1. The setbacks put the Bowie State overall record at 7-19, 7-10 in league play and 4-6 in the division.

Bowie State accounted for seven hits in game one but were hitless in game two. Senior
Tiffany Bearns (Huntingtown, Md.) recorded two hits over the twin bill. Seniors
Morgan Powell (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and
Madison Margas (Grasonville, Md.), sophomore
Aseyah Alexander (Silver Spring, Md.) and freshmen
Amya Ferguson (Orange, Va.) and
Kristina Hawke (New Castle, Del.) tallied one hit each for the Bulldogs.
Hawke (5-12) pitched all five innings in game one, allowing 11 hits, walked three and struck out two. Powell (3-8) took the loss in the circle in game two, giving up 14 hits and walked four.
As a team, Chowan (19-20, 15-2 CIAA, 10-0 North) batted .463 on the afternoon while Hawks pitching held the Bulldogs to a batting average of .189 in the doubleheader.
Bowie State will take a break from competition until the Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday (April 23), hosting Trinity (D.C.) in a doubleheader (2 and 4 p.m.) and will closeout the season with a home doubleheader on Sunday (April 28) at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
