Bulldogs Softball No Hits Trinity (D.C.) 24-0, 29-0

BOWIE, Md. - Bowie State pitching held visiting Trinity (D.C.) hitless over two games, blanking the Tigers 24-0 and 29-0 in Tuesday afternoon non-conference softball play. The wins marked the first shutouts of the season for the Bulldogs.   PHOTOS
 
As a unit, Bowie State (9-19) racked up a season-high 40 hits in the two-game set, which included nine doubles, a pair of triples and one inside the park home run. On the defensive side, freshman Kristina Hawke struck out 12 in game one, facing just 16 batters while senior Morgan Powell fanned 10 and faced 18 batters in game two.
 
The Bulldogs exploded for 14 first inning runs in the opening game and plated runs in every inning. Seniors Tiffany Bearns and Powell along with sophomore Morgana Johnson tallied three hits each in game one to pace Bowie State. Hawke along with senior Madison Margas were responsible for two hits apiece in the opener while senior Jaelyn Belt and freshmen Shanya Gordon and Sierra Sims added one hit to account for BSU's 17 hits in game one against the Trinity Tigers (0-16).
 
Bearns was responsible for five RBI and Sims pushed across three RBI of her own for the Bowie State in game one of the twin bill.
 
Bowie State pounded out 23 hits in game two with Margas leading the attack with four hits to go along with five RBI. Gordon was the Bulldogs' leading RBI producer in the second game, recorded a game-high six on a trio of hits. Joining Gordon in the three-hit category of game two were Bearns, Powell and freshman Brooke Ware.
 
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday (4/25) in a non-conference single game across town at Washington Adventist University. First pitch is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. on the WAU campus.
