RALEIGH, N.C. - The 2019 BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America Football Team has been announced and Bowie State redshirt sophomore
Joshua Pryor is one of the six players from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) being selected.
Virginia Union & Fayetteville State each had two selections with Panthers running back Tabyus Taylor and defensive back Sterling Hammond being honored while the special teams duo of Tyeous Sharpe and Brandon Smith were chosen at punt returner and kick returner, respectively, for the Broncos and Shaw linebacker Devon Hunt round out the selections from the CIAA.
Smith (Special Teams) and Hunt (Defense) are returning Players of the Year in the CIAA while Pryor is the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year after finishing second in the CIAA in sacks.
Taylor, who was the lone selection on offense, led the conference in rushing, total yards, and scoring while Sharpe was the CIAA's top punt returner and Hammond ranked among league leaders in interceptions.
All six players were also members of the 2019 All-CIAA preseason football team announced in July.
Twenty members of last year's postseason All-America Team are on the preseason team including nine players that were freshmen or sophomores in 2018.
This is the 13th year BOXTOROW has released the preseason All-America Team. Media members from around the country were polled to select the 2019 BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America Team.
