BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State University volleyball team dropped its first match of the season, falling 3-0 to Kutztown (Pa.) University by scores of 18-25, 5-25 and 11-25 on Tuesday evening in the McKeldin Gymnasium.
The BSU Bulldogs are now 1-1 overall while the KU Golden Bears improve to 3-1 overall.
Junior
Alana Matson (Baltimore, Md.) led the Bulldogs on offense with three kills on a dozen attacks and she accounted for two blocks in the match. Junior
Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.) and sophomore
Madison Marshall (Albany, N.Y.) contributed a pair of kills each on a combined 11 attacks. Senior
Shalom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, Md.) and juniors
Chelsea Beaudoin (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and
Bianca Tucker were responsible for one kill each on the night.
As a team, Bowie State tallied an attack percentage of minus .226 while Kutztown dominated with an overall attack percentage of .273.
Holly Owen paced the Golden Bears with a match-high 13 kills on 26 attacks.
Bowie State hits the road this weekend, playing in a tri-match hosted by Frostburg (Md.) State. The Bulldogs face Frostburg State on Friday (September 13) at 6 p.m. followed by Saturday (September 14) matches versus University of the Sciences at 1 p.m. and Alderson Broaddus at 3 p.m. All matches will be played in Frostburg State's Bobcat Arena.
