BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie State University volleyball team dropped a non-conference contest to Frostburg State University on Tuesday (9/24) evening in the BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena, falling in straight sets (20-25, 13-25 and 9-25. The loss drops Bowie State's record to 1-6 on the season while Frostburg State improves to 6-3 on the season.
Juniors
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) and
Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.) along with freshman
Kiana Davis (Woodbridge, Va.) led the Bulldogs with four kills each on a combined 30 attacks. Menchaca also paced Bowie State with 13 assists to go along with four digs and one block assist.
Defensively, freshman
Neysha Washington (Winchester, Va.) led the Bulldogs with 10 digs and junior
Chelsea Beaudoin (Upper Marlboro) picked up eight digs in the loss.
Jackie Sterenberg led Frostburg State in the contest with a match-high 13 kills. Bailey Godlove and Taylor Patrick added eight and seven kills, respectively. Raven Pratt put down three of the Bobcats' four blocks. The Bobcats duo of Cori Smothers along with Edwyna Lainez tallied 13 and 12 digs respectively. Lainez was also responsible for 19 of Frostburg State's 31 assists.
Bowie State will take a 22-day break away from the A.C. Jordan Arena before returning home on October 17 hosting Virginia State. The Bulldogs will hit the road for its next seven matches, starting with 6 p.m. road match at Virginia State on Thursday (September 26).
