ETTRICK, Va. – Virginia State hosted Bowie State volleyball on Thursday (9/26) evening in the first of two CIAA division matches and the Trojans controlled the Bulldogs from start to finish in a three-set sweep. Bowie State (1-7, 0-1 CIAA, 0-1 North) was defeated by scores of 10-25, 10-25 and 15-25 in the VSU Multipurpose Center.
The Bulldogs struggled to get on track most of the evening and managed 14 total kills with
Shalom Omo-Osagie and
Alana Matson accounting for a team-high three each.
Soljala Jones,
Chelsea Beaudoin and
Caitland Okorafor were responsible for a pair of kills each while Oladia Mechaca and
Kiana Davis added one kill each in the setback.
Defensively,
Neysha Washington picked up a match-high 13 digs for Bowie State and
Madison Marshall earned four digs for the Bulldogs.
Kennedi Cannon paced Virginia State (4-6, 1-0 CIAA, 1-0 North) with a dozen kills on a match-high 22 kills and added five digs to her stat line. VSU's Deja Lester ranked second on the Trojans roster with nine kills in the match to go along with two service aces and a half dozen digs. Alexis Baker was Virginia State's leader on defense with eight digs.
The Bulldogs will look to snap its current seven-game skid next Thursday (October 3) as they travel across town to take on Trinity (D.C.) in a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
