Women’s Volleyball to Host Shaw Monday

BOWIE, Md. – On Monday, Oct. 11, the Bowie State University women's volleyball team will welcome the Lady Bears of Shaw University for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division match at 6 p.m. from A.C. Jordan Arena.

The contest will offer a live broadcast on the Bulldogs Sports Network and live stats will be available on www.BSUBulldogs.com.

The Bulldogs (1-12, 0-6 CIAA) have lost their last 10 matches, including the last outing at Virginia Union where BSU suffered a 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 28-26, 20-25, 11-15) setback in Richmond, Va. Bowie State's lone victory came against Trinity (DC) back on Sept. 14.

Offensively, the Bulldogs have struggled throughout the season as BSU currently ranks 11th in the CIAA for a .006 hitting percentage, 6.82 kills per set while their opponents have owned 10.3 kills per set and a .159 hitting percentage.

Junior Madison Marshall (Albany, NY) has 63 total kills on the year while senior Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) has produced 179 assists and sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) has collected 158 digs. Washington ranks fourth in the league with a 3.82 average in digs per set while graduate senior Christiana DuBose (Bowie, MD) has a .51 average in service aces per set for a conference third best.

Shaw (7-4, 6-0 CIAA) currently stands in second place in the North with a 3-0 record in the division. The Lady Bears have won their last six matches including a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21) victory at Virginia State on Oct. 7. In the CIAA, SU has a third best hitting percentage (.156) while leading the league in service aces per set (2.62) and fourth overall in total kills (405).

Mallory Brown has a team-high (89) kills, while Breelyn Clark has 318 total assists and 18 service aces. Jessica Kelley leads the team in digs (110) and Kamille Patrick has 25 total blocks.

Historically, Bowie State has not had much success against Shaw, the Bulldogs have won five of the last 13 matches against the Lady Bears. BSU has lost the last five matches to the Lady Bears, including a 3-0 (9-25, 5-25, 15-25) setback on Oct. 20, 2019.
