Petersburg, Va. – The Bowie State University women's volleyball team ended an 11-match losing streak but couldn't hold it down for both matches during the opening day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up at the Virginia State University Multipurpose Center. The results bring the Bulldogs to 2-14 overall and 1-8 in CIAA action.
Bowie State earned a 3-2 (25-16, 26-24,20-25,19-25,15-13) victory against Livingstone College in the opening match. Senior Oladia Menchaca (Landover, MD) led the way for the Bulldogs with 12 kills while graduate senior Christiana DuBose (Bowie, MD) aided 10 assists and sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) grabbed 18 digs.
During the nightcap, Bowie State fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-16) to Fayetteville State. Menchaca (Landover, MD) registered a team-high five kills, aided by freshman Regan Amos (Reisterstown, MD) with 12 assists while Washington finished with 14 digs.
BSU will conclude the round-up on Sunday, Oct. 17 with a contest against St. Augustine's at 11 a.m.
