Petersburg, Va.- The Bowie State University women's volleyball team ended the weekend on high note on the final day of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up at Virginia State University Multipurpose Center.
The Bulldogs improve to 3-14 overall, and 2-8 in CIAA action while Saint Augustine's falls to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in league action.
Bowie State gained a 3-2 win over Lady Falcons by the scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23. Junior Lydia Leiner (Sykesville, MD) led the way with a season-high 17 kills, while freshman Regan Amos (Reisterstown, MD) added a career-high 17 assists, and sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) dished out a season-high 33 digs.
As the match came down to the fifth set, the Bulldogs trailed 6-3 before back-to-back kills pulled BSU within two (7-5). SAU led by as many as four points until the Bulldogs scored five unanswered points to tie the set at 11-all. The set would feature 11 more ties until Bowie State registered three-straight kills to close out the 25-23 set thriller.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday Oct. 21 against Elizabeth City State University in A.C. Jordan Arena. The match will begin at 6 p.m.
