Bowie State Falls in Three-Straight Sets

Raleigh, NC. –  Bowie State women's volleyball fell in three-straight sets to Shaw University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest, 3-0 (25-11,25-12,25-16) Monday night inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

BSU is now 4-15 overall, and 2-10 in the league, while SU improves to 15-5 overall, and 13-1 in the CIAA and remains in first place in the Northern Division with an 8-0 mark.

Junior Lydia Leiner (Sykesville) led BSU with five kills aided by freshman Regan Amos (Reisterstown, MD) with seven assists. Defensively sophomore Rachel Sefton (Woodbine, MD) dished out seven digs.

In the first set, the Bulldogs struggled offensively, owning a hitting percentage of .059 compared to the Lady Bears .480 and a 13-4 ratio in kills for the first set giving them the 1-0 lead. Despite a better hitting percentage (.118) the Bulldogs suffered from 13 serving errors in the second set that proved to be costly down the stretch.

With a 2-0 deficit, the Bulldogs trailed 7-0 to begin the third stanza. BSU managed to trim the Lady Bears command to five (12-7) but that would be the closest the Bulldogs would get the remainder of the stretch as Shaw came away with the match win.

Bowie State will return home to A.C. Jordan Arena for their home finale against Lincoln (PA) on Thursday, Nov. 4 and senior day. The match is slated to start at 6 p.m.
