Bowie, Md. – The Bowie State women's volleyball team (5-17, 4-11 CIAA 2-8 North) picked up a big victory inside A.C. Jordan Arena Thursday night as the Bulldogs defeated Lincoln (PA) University (1-21, 1-14 CIAA 0-9 North) in four sets during a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest.
Prior to the match again the Lions (1-21, 1-14 CIAA, 0-8 North), Bowie State (5-17, 4-11 CIAA, 2-8 North) paid homage to its five graduating seniors including Christiana DuBose (Bowie, MD), Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.), Madison Marshall (Albany, NY), Oladia Menchaca (Landover, MD) and Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) as part of the Senior Night ceremony.
The Bulldogs secured a win of in set one, 25-21 but the Lions took set two, 25-18. BSU tacked on 11 kills and took advantage of LUPA's eight miscues for the go ahead 25-19 third set win.
The fourth set would be a battle as both teams went back-and-forth early on. The Bulldogs scored four-straight for a 15-11 lead but LUPA responded with three of their own to close the gap. BSU led by as many as three down the stretch including a 24-21 frame but Lions managed to keep the game alive by scoring two straight – the Bulldogs scored the set point on a kill from junior Lydia Leiner (Sykesville, MD) that would stamp the win.
Leiner led the way with 15 kills and 15 digs while Tucker dished out a match-high 27 assists and freshman Regan Amos (Reisterstown, MD) registered 11 assists. Additionally, DuBose recorded a match-high six service aces. Sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) collected 12 digs while Madison finished with nine kills and 10 stops.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, Nov. 8 at Virginia State for their season finale. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
