The Series

Saturday's game marks the 38th meeting between Bowie State and Elizabeth City State, with the series dating back to 1978. BSU owns the 21-16 all-time record against the Vikings, including a 10-9 mark at Bulldogs Stadium. The Bulldogs have won the eight of the past 10 matchups and currently own a seven-game winning streak over ECSU.

The Rankings

Bowie State had been in rankings the entire 2021 season. On Monday, the second Super Regional Two rankings were released and BSU remained at No. 2 after its initial ranking also at No. 2 during week eight. In addition to the Super Regional Two rankings, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) DII Coaches Top-25 poll dropped the Bulldogs back to No. 14 while the D2Football Top-25 poll moved Bowie State to No. 8 and the BOXTOROW HBCU Media Poll voted the Bulldogs No. 4 this week.

Last Time Out

The Vikings (4-6, 3-3 CIAA) suffered a 44-14 setback to Virginia Union last Saturday. ECSU was held scoreless in the first half and was never able to recover from the 34-point deficit. The Vikings scored a pair of touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter - both on a one-yard scoot from Kevin Caldwell and Carleton Thomas.

The Bulldogs (8-1) claimed their third-straight CIAA Northern Division title with a 31-7 road win at Lincoln (PA) Saturday (Oct. 30). The win also set up Bowie State for their third-consecutive trip to Salem, Va., to compete in the 2021 CIAA Football Championship on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Salem Stadium. The Bulldogs will take on Fayetteville State - also for the third time as BSU will look for their fourth CIAA title. The championship will be the fourth-straight for Fayetteville State.

CIAA Weekly Honor

Redshirt freshman Alen Omerhodzic was named the CIAA's Special Teams Player of the Week announced Monday (Nov. 1). The Bowie, Md., native, went a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points in Bowie State's win over Lincoln (PA). The redshirt freshman kicker also nailed a 28-yard field goal while totaling six kickoffs for 335 yards with one touchback to help the nationally ranked Bulldogs clinched their third straight division title.

The Streak

Since 2018, Bowie State has won 17-straight conference games including 7-0 mark during the 2019 season. The Bulldogs are currently 6-0 this season and will look to extend the streak to 18 Saturday against Elizabeth City State.
