BOWIE, Md. – No. 24 Bowie State football will travel to West Haven, Conn., on Saturday, Sept. 18 for the 2021 Harmony Classic against New Haven – a contest that will conclude the University of New Haven's initiative for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in conjunction with Bowie State University and the NAACP's Connecticut Chapter.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. The game will offer live video on the Charger Sports Network and live stats will be available on www.newhavenchargers.com.
Saturday's contest will mark the fourth matchup in series history between the two teams. The Bulldogs are 0-3 versus the Chargers as the last time these two squads met was in 1995. The first ever meeting between Bowie State and New Haven occurred in West Haven, Conn., in 1993 where the Chargers took a 69-19 win over BSU.
The No. 24 Bulldogs (1-1) are coming off a thrilling 28-19 victory against Saginaw Valley State Saturday (Sept. 11). After falling behind 10-0 after the first quarter, BSU strung together a stretch which included 14 answered points in the second quarter while holding the Cardinals to nine points in the second half.
Three Bulldogs racked up Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Player of the Week honors as trio of quarterback Ja'rome Johnson (Washington, D.C.), wide receiver Darious Bowman (Fort Washington, MD) and defensive lineman Joshua Pryor (Baltimore, MD) produced big performances in the win. Johnson tallied 409 yards on 27-of-35 passes and three touchdowns, respectively. Bowman led the receiving unit with eight catches for 175 yards and a TD while Pryor recorded seven tackles, including five solo to go along with three tackle for loss, two quarterback hurries and a half sack.
New Haven (1-0) is coming off a 30-14 win over Franklin Pierce on Sept. 4, led by Connor Degenhardt who threw for 320 yards on 21 complete passes and three touchdowns. Shamar Logan rushed for 104 yards on 20 carries while Dev Holmes caught eight receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
Ryan Hodgins led the Chargers with eight tackles, including five solo, one pass breakup and a half tackle for loss defensively.
