Bulldogs Fall in Straight Sets to Virginia State

Bowie, Md. - The Bowie State University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-10) in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference opener against Virginia State University on Thursday night inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs slip to 1-5 on the season and 0-1 in the CIAA while VSU improves to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in league action.

Junior Noel Snow (Mount Airy, MD) led the way with four kills while senior Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) dished out 14 assists. Defensively, sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) collected 11 digs.
 
During the first and second set, the Bulldogs were outscored in kills 10-5 and 11-6 despite tying with the Trojans in total attacks (23) in the first set. VSU went ahead 15-5 midway thanks to a kill from Zaria Irons but Bowie State was able to put together a mini run to close the deficit to four (19-15) with a service from senior Christiana DuBose (Bowie, MD). BSU stayed within strike but the Trojans used a 6-4 spread to take the 1-0 lead on the match.

The second set featured back-and-forth action between both teams until the Trojans pulled away from the Bulldogs scoring the last three points off two kills and an attack error from BSU for the 2-0 lead and 25-21 set win.
Although, BSU had more attacks in the third set, the Trojans held the Bulldogs to a negative hitting percentage (-.148) while holding a 13-5 advantage in kills for the 3-0 sweep.

For the match, BSU ended with a hitting percentage of 41-percent with 16 total kills on the night while VSU finished with 69-percent and 34 total kills.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Pennsylvania to compete in a tri-match against Kutztown University (PA) and Frostburg University. Match times are set for 12 noon and 2 p.m.
