Bowie State Men’s Hoops Set for Road Game at Claflin

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State men's basketball returns to the road on Saturday afternoon as they visit the Claflin Panthers (2-10) at the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Center in Orangeburg, S.C. for Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action.

The Series
Saturday's game will mark the fourth meeting between the Bulldogs and Panthers. Claflin leads the all-time series 2-1, including a 66-60 win over BSU in Orangeburg last time out.

About Bowie State
The Bulldogs travel south following a 102-85 loss to nationally-ranked West Liberty Monday, Jan. 3 in West Liberty, WV. Bowie State couldn't overcome the large deficit (61-38) at halftime, following 21 turnovers that was committed in the first half alone. Sophomore David McCullough (Bowie, MD) finished with 16 points while sophomore Anthony Carpenter (Reisterstown, MD) chipped in 12 points and eight boards while sophomore Ayan Teel (Bowie, MD) and senior Justine Route (Washington, D.C.) aided 11 and 10 points.

Through 11 games played thus far on the season, junior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) has averaged a team-high 12.3 points per game while McCullough averages 12.2 points and graduate senior Tyler Jones (Pleasantville, NJ) posts 10.9 points and a team-high 3.9 rebounds per game.

Scouting Claflin
Claflin has lost their last four games entering Saturday's game. The Panthers fell to Virginia State back on Dec. 20 by the score of 84-70 on the road. Donell Frayer, Jr. scored a team-high 27 points and five assists while Noah Jenkins and Romero Hill contributed 16 and 12 points, respectively.

The Panthers leading scorer is Frayer, Jr. who averages 14.3 points while Allen Hatchett is the team's best defender with 4.2 rebounds per outing.

In the CIAA
Claflin ranks 12th in the league with an average of 63.5 points per game while Bowie State is fourth in the CIAA, averaging 73.4 points per outing. Defensively, the Panthers are sixth – allowing their opponents to put up 73.2 points while BSU is 10th with allowing their opponents to average 81.1 points per outing.

The Bulldogs rank second in free throws (74-percent) and third in total team blocks (43) but BSU also leads the league in turnovers (18.3).

Following Saturday's competition, Bowie State will host Lincoln (PA) on Saturday, Jan. 15 in A.C. Jordan Arena. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
