CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Bowie State University had two Bulldogs named to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Football Weekly Honors announced by the league office Monday.

Graduate senior Dion "DJ" Golatt, Jr. earned the CIAA Food Lion Quarterback of the Week honor while sophomore Justin Zavala tabbed his first career weekly accolade after receiving this week's CIAA Food Lion Special Teams Player of the Week.

Golatt, Jr., a native of Largo, Md., was chosen as this week's quarterback of the week after leading the Bowie State Bulldogs to a 41-14 win over Virginia State last weekend. Golatt, Jr. completed of 17-of-29 passes for 242 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He tossed two TDs in the opening quarter that gave Bowie State a big 24-0 lead early on. Golatt, Jr. had scores of 27 yards, 31 yards, and 45 yards along with four rushes for 21 yards. The award of Golatt, Jr.'s second-consecutive and third overall this season.

Zavala was perfect against the Trojans last weekend, going 5-for-5 on point after tries while also adding two field goals that accounted for a total of 11 points during the Bulldogs win. The Bowie, Md., native connected on field goals from 23 yards and 31 yards. The lone kicker averaged 51 yards on eight kickoffs, allowing just 11.8 returning yards.

Bowie State improves to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA returns to action Saturday, Oct. 15 in a nationally televised game on CW against No. 11 Virginia Union with a kickoff slated for 12 noon from Bulldog Stadium.
