Bulldogs Sweep Salem at Home

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women's volleyball welcomed the Tigers of Salem University Wednesday night in A.C. Jordan Arena where they would improve their record to .500 (8-8) after a three-set match victory (25-14, 25-15, 25-21).

The victory also enhanced the Bulldogs home record to 7-1, an improvement that has not happened in over a decade.

Graduate senior Jailyn Ivey (Bowie, MD) led the Bulldogs with 15 kills, including five service aces and 12 digs. Junior Lindsey Grossman (Albany, OR) recorded 21 assists, nine kills and 14 digs while sophomore Regan Amos (Reisterstown, MD) contributed 15 assists and junior Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) grabbed 12 stops. Additionally, graduate senior Kendal Hoges (West Orange, NJ) registered eight kills and team-high four blocks in the winning effort.

Bowie State took an 8-3 lead in the opening set and never looked back. The Bulldogs scored the last four points on a pair of kills from sophomore Kyznia Jessup (Woodbridge, VA), a kill from Hoges and a service ace from junior Rachel Sefton (Woodbine, MD).

In similar fashion of the first set, the Bulldogs grew an 11-5 lead to start the second set. Midway, the Bulldogs had blossomed to a 21-10 lead on a 10-5 run that forced the Tigers to call a timeout. However, BSU would earn three-straight attacks from Ivey that secured the set win and 2-0 lead.

Salem managed to stay close with Bowie State in the third set as the Tigers tied and took a three-point lead (16-13) that led to a Bulldogs timeout. Nevertheless, out of the timeout – Bowie State scored eight unanswered points featuring three kills from Grossman that provided BSU with a 21-16 tip that eventually led to the set win as Grossman tacked on the set point and match win with a kills.

Bowie State will return to action Thursday, Oct. 13 against Elizabeth City State in CIAA action. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in A.C. Jordan Arena.
