ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Bowie State women's volleyball team fell in straights to the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University Sunday afternoon in the Vaughan Center. The Bulldogs dropped 25-13 in the first set, 25-16 in the second and 25-15 in the third frame.
The Bulldogs dip to 6-5 on the year and 3-3 in the CIAA while ECSU improves to 12-8 overall and 6-1 in the league.
Statistically, BSU had a tough day offensively. Bowie State recorded a hitting percentage of .024 with just 20 kills on 84 total attacks while the Lady Vikings registered 37 kills on 85 attacks and a .282 hitting percentage. ECSU held advantages in assists (36-16), service aces (10-2), blocks (7-5) and digs (26-28).
Sophomore Kyznia Jessup (Woodbridge, VA) posted a team-high eight kills (.235) while junior Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) collected nine digs and graduate senior Jailyn Ivey (Bowie, MD) with seven stops. Both juniors Rachel Sefton (Woodbine, MD) and Lindsey Grossman (Albany, OR) finished with six assists.
The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as Bowie State travels to Shaw for another division matchup with the Lady Bears in Raleigh, N.C. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
