BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball team will begin their 2022-23 regular season this weekend at the Conference Challenge hosted by Shippensburg University on Friday, Nov. 11 through Saturday, Nov. 12. The Bulldogs will take on Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) members Kutztown (11/11) and Shippensburg (11/12) at Heiges Field House. Game time against Kutztown will tip-off at 4 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. start against Shippensburg on Saturday.

Last Season for Bowie State:
Under the guidance of head coach
Shadae Swan, the Bowie State Bulldogs finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 12-12 overall record and 10-6 CIAA record. The Bulldogs finished third last amongst the CIAA Northern Division with a 5-5 mark. The Bulldogs were 7-3 at home but 5-8 on the road last season.
BSU averaged 54.0 points per game while giving up 59.6 points per game. Their opponents shot 39-percent from the field (30-percent from behind the arc and 65-percent from the charity stripe) compared to the Bulldogs 34-percent that featured 31-percent from the 3-point line and 61-percent from the free throw line. Bowie State's defense forced its opponents into turning the ball over 18.1 times per game and averaging 13.7 points off of turnovers.
CIAA Order of Predications for 2022-23 Season:
Bowie State was picked to finish fourth overall and third in the CIAA Northern Division announced by the league office on Sept. 26. Bowie State returns eight players from last season including redshirt sophomore
Katerra Myers who was named to the CIAA All-Preseason Team. The Burtonsville, Md., earned All-CIAA Preseason recognition after an outstanding 2021-22 season where she averaged 9.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in roughly 27.3 minutes per game. The 5-foot-8 forward recorded three double-doubles and registered 13 games in double figure scoring including a 32-point performance against Fayetteville State. Additionally, she was also the lone Bowie State Bulldog to make the All-CIAA Team and CIAA All-Tournament.
Lincoln (PA) was voted to repeat as conference champions while Elizabeth City State and Johnson C. Smith were picked second, third and fourth, respectively.
The Newcomers:
The Bulldogs welcome seven new faces to the roster for 2022-23. The newcomers include four true freshman, two transfers and a redshirt freshman who will take the court this season.
Kutztown:
The Golden Bears were selected first in the PSAC East during the Preseason Poll. KU received eight-of-nine first-place votes. Kutztown finished last season at 26-7 overall, the most wins in program history, won the PSAC East for the second time in three seasons, reaching the PSAC final four along the way. KU also qualified for the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history, first since 1996.
The Maroon and Gold led the NCAA in defensive field goal % (32.9) and blocked shots (197).

Shippensburg:
The Raiders are coming off a 16-13 overall record in 2021-22. SU earned a PSAC playoff berth but fell short to Lock Haven in the first round. The Raiders welcome eight newcomers, four seniors, a graduate, two juniors, three sophomores and five true freshmen under the leadership of Kristy Trn.
The Raiders averaged 63.9 points while holding its opponents to 63.4 points per outing. SU shot 40-percent from the field including 27-percent from the 3-point line and 68-percent from the charity stripe.
