Bowie State Women’s Basketball Hosts UDC Wednesday Night

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball will be back in action at home on Wednesday, Nov. 23 as the Bulldogs hosts the Firebirds from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) as one of two games Bowie State Athletics will host inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The women's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

The Series:
Wednesday's meeting will mark the 13th time since 2008 that Bowie State and UDC will face one another. The series is tied at 6-6 for both programs. The Firebirds won last year's meeting, 58-53 in Washington but prior to that, the Bulldogs had won five straight against UDC. BSU is 4-2 all-time at home against UDC.
 
The Bulldog Breakdown:
Bowie State (2-2) is 1-0 at home this season, the Bulldogs opened up its home slate last week against Shepherd with a dominating 78-52 victory. Since the home opener win, Bowie State suffered a setback to California (PA) on Friday (Nov. 19) by the score of 78-62. Against the Vulcans, BSU's bench had a 33-point performance and defensively, they were able to force Cal (PA) to commit 14 turnovers but a slow first quarter (28-9) forced the Bulldogs to play from behind the rest of the way. Anii Harris led the way with 14 points and six rebounds.
 
Harris is the Bulldogs leading scorer, averaging 12.0 points per game while the Katerra Myers is the top rebounder (7.0). BSU averages 62.3 points and 46.8 rebounds per outing. The Bulldogs are shooting 32-percent from the field, including 23-percent from the 3-point line and 60-percent from the free throw line.
 
Surveying the Firebirds:
UDC has lost its last two outings entering Wednesday's game. The Firebirds (2-2) fell 82-72 to Georgian Court on Nov. 20. The game was highlighted by Latavia Jackson's 33 points and 10 rebounds but it was not enough as the Firebirds went 20-33 from the free throw line and saw a disadvantage on the glass, getting outrebounded by GCU 49-38 and second chance opportunities.
 
Through four games, UDC averages 77.3 points per game. In field goals, the Firebirds are shooting 41.5-percent from the floor, including 32.3-percent from the 3-point line and 68.2-percent from the free throw line. Defensively, the team averages 39.5 rebounds per outing. Jackson is the leading scorer, averaging 19.3 points per game. She's one of four players averaging double digits in scoring.
 
Up Next:
The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 27 against Shippensburg at 2 p.m. The game is the opener of a doubleheader.
