Women’s Basketball Hosts Shippensburg Sunday

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball return to A.C. Jordan Arena on Sunday, Nov. 27 to host Shippensburg in a non-conference matchup at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs enter the game with a 3-2 overall record while the Raiders are currently 3-1 on the season.

The Series
Sunday's matchup will be the second time both Bowie State and Shippensburg meet this year. The first meeting of the 2022-23 season occurred during opening week with the Bulldogs falling 51-46 at Shippensburg for the final game of the Conference Challenge. That setback extended the Raiders win-streak to two-straight over Bowie State. Shippensburg is 6-2 against the Bulldogs since 2013.
 
Last Time Out for Bowie State
The Bulldogs defeated the University of D.C. behind sophomore Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) 25 points and junior Jayla Irvin's (Alexandria, VA) 20 points for a 70-63 win at home on Wednesday (Nov. 23).
 
As a team, Bowie State has won three of its last five games, with wins against Kutztown, Shepherd and UDC. The Bulldogs enter the weekend averaging 63.8 points per game, while holding its opponents to 60.8 per game for a 3.0 scoring margin. Harris leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points while Irvin adds 11.0 points. The duo ranks top-2 in field goals. Defensively, redshirt junior Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) averages 7.0 rebounds per outing while junior Seanice Lyons (Upper Marlboro, MD) has tallied 16 assists, including five against UDC to lead BSU in the assist category (3.2 apg).
 
Surveying the Raiders
Shippensburg enters Sunday's matchup, coming off an 81-63 win over Holy Family (Nov. 19). This will be the Raiders second road game on the young season as Shippensburg suffered its only road loss to Jefferson (Nov. 16) by the score of 73-69. Ariel Jones is the team's top offensive player, averaging 20.0 points per game while Lauren Pettis and Treasure George put up 12.8 and 11.8 points, respectively. Defensively, Pettis has a team-best 10.5 rebounds per game, followed by Jones at 6.5 rebounds per outing.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 27 against Shippensburg at 2 p.m. The game is the opener of a doubleheader for Bowie State basketball.
